Faulkner:
Yes sir?
Student:
Uh Mr. Faulkner it's often
been said that uh
great novels or great
short stories that
they wouldn't uh
pass muster in a freshman
composition course.
I was wondering,
since this is your first day
at a university if
you had any comment on
the uh traditional,
apparently traditional
conflict between the
creative writer and
the school man.
Faulkner:
Well
as an old veteran sixth grader
that question is,
I think out..outside
of my province.
Class:
...laughs...
Faulkner:
Cause I never got to
freshman english.
I don't know how
much it would conflict.
...sniff...
Maybe if before I have
left university I will
be able to pass
freshman english.
Class:
...laughs...
